The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority broke ground on the new lanes that will be added to MoPac by the end of 2015.
The MoPac Improvement Project will add an express lane in each direction on the highway on an 11-mile stretch between Lady Bird Lake and Parmer Lane. This project is a partnership between many of the transportation agencies and local governments in Central Texas including CAMPO.
When the project is finished in the fall of 2015 drivers will be able to access and exit the express lane at three points; Cesar Chavez, Ranch Road 2222, and Parmer Lane.
The ground breaking on Friday October 18 at the intersection of MoPac and 5th street was commemorating some of the work done as well as the beginning of construction.
CAMPO Transportation Policy Board Chair Will Conley was on hand to commemorate the beginning of construction.
“We will continue to invest in the region to get Central Texas moving and keep our quality of life high,” said Conley. “This project will help both of those goals. It is important to note this project is a partnership between so many agencies and was only accomplished because of collaboration.”
