CAMPO Pilot Project Featured in FHWA Sustainability Report

The CAMPO 2013-2014 Extreme Weather Vulnerability Assessment Pilot, conducted in cooperation with the City of Austin, is featured in Federal Highway Administration’s new report, Advancing a Sustainable Highway System: Highlights of FHWA Sustainability Activities, as an exemplary regional project. The report illustrates how sustainability has been incorporated into a wide variety of FHWA programs, projects, policies, processes, and partnerships.

Using FHWA’s framework to conduct a vulnerability assessment of transportation infrastructure, the CAMPO pilot project considered temperatures and extreme heat, extreme precipitation and flooding, drought, and wildfire. At the conclusion of the study CAMPO and the City of Austin will conduct a regional symposium to broadly share the project findings.
