CAMPO Executive Director Ashby Johnson

Ashby Johnson is the Executive Director of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) which is the metropolitan planning organization for the six-county central Texas region and has served in that capacity since August 2014.  Ashby also served as the Deputy MPO Director at the Houston-Galveston Area Council, which is the metropolitan transportation planning agency for the eight-county greater Houston region for the past 11 years. Prior to H-GAC, he spent eight years with the Federal Highway Administration’s Office of Planning and one year with the Federal Transit Administration’s Office of Planning. Prior to USDOT, Ashby spent five years with the Texas Department of Transportation in the Environmental Affairs Division. He holds a Bachelors degree in Government and a Masters in Community and Regional Planning from the University of Texas at Austin.

CAMPO Assistant Director Phillip R. Tindall

Phillip Tindall is the new Assistant Director of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO). CAMPO coordinates transportation planning in the six-county Central Texas region of Bastrop, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson Counties.

Mr. Tindall grew up in Milam County and received his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M – Commerce. After serving in the United States Air Force, he moved to Southwest Florida where he performed in various financial management roles and later became a principal planner for Collier County, Florida’s Transportation Department. He was selected as the Executive Director of the Collier County MPO in 2007 and led the organization until returning to Central Texas in 2010. He most recently served as the purchasing and contracts manager for Austin Resource Recovery.

Mr. Tindall has an MPA from the University of Wyoming and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners. His diverse body of work in regional planning, financial management and contract administration will make him an invaluable resource to assist the executive director in guiding the region’s metropolitan transportation planning process.
