Regional Safety Action Plan

CAMPO developed a Regional Safety Action Plan (RSAP) to enhance traffic safety across its six-county region. This plan sets an ambitious, yet essential goal to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes by 50% by 2035 and eliminate them entirely by 2050. The plan aims to meet this goal while improving transportation systems for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, public transportation users, and drivers, with an emphasis on improving safety in vulnerable communities.

This comprehensive and data-driven effort addresses broader regional safety needs and provides access to additional funding resources. County-specific plans were developed for Bastrop, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, and Williamson counties. *Travis County developed its own safety action plan in coordination with the CAMPO RSAP.  The county-specific plans served as the building blocks for the overarching RSAP, ensuring a coordinated approach to safety across the region.

The RSAP focuses on several key areas:

  • Proposing safety-driven infrastructure improvements
  • Recommending safety programs and policy changes
  • Improving traffic enforcement
  • Enhancing educational programs and supporting the development of road safety culture in the region
  • Understanding of the disparities in roadway safety for historically underserved communities to help prioritize investments
